Going Above and Beyond to Support Service Users

The hard work and dedication of our staff play a big part in the outcomes that our service users with acquired brain injury or learning disabilities achieve. This may sound obvious, but small things can make a big difference, especially to someone who has complex needs. This might be driving an individual to their favourite activity, changing plans at the last minute, or their overall positive can-do attitude.
At our recent conference, we celebrated all of our staff, recognising that it takes a real team effort to enable our service users to live their best lives. Whether it’s an activity support worker, finance or staff co-ordinator, cleaner or maintenance person, everyone’s role is important.
We gratefully acknowledged that some people go above and beyond their duties to enhance the lives of our service users, and we presented them with a certificate of appreciation and a gift at our conference. They were: Codi A, Alice N, Andrew M, Brian S, Vita I, Selina V, Charles A, Caroline H, Emmanuel A, Dorota N, Toni E, Laura G, Helen C, Sam G, Jayne M, Tracey H and Valentina U.
Some of the reasons for recognising these individuals included:
“He is fantastic with the service users and his relationship with one of the guys is amazing; it’s lovely to see how they interact together. He brings a calming presence to the house and we all love it when he’s on shift!”
“She is always willing to help out when needed and completely flexible, especially when driving.”
“She has worked really hard to support one service user in particular so he can speak his native language, including coming in on her days off.”
“Goes above and beyond on a daily basis to ensure not just service users’ needs are met, but also staff. Willing to help at the drop of a hat.”
“Unsung hero. Juggles everything and does it seamlessly.”
“Motivated, passionate and enthusiastic.”
“He is responsive, quick, and always happy to offer help and offer solutions.”
“She cooks every Christmas without a fuss, ensures all the service users’ preferences are catered for on a daily basis.”
The biggest cheer of the day went to Valentina, a senior support worker, who received a special nomination for outstanding dedication to her role. She is very passionate about her work and ensures that service users receive the best care possible. Valentina always ensures that the shift is run to the highest standard and her outstanding work has been commended by external professionals. An emotional Valentina received her award acknowledging that she feels that Richardson Care is like her family.
We are very grateful to all of our staff, and particularly those who we recognised with these awards. Thank you for everything you do!
