This long-term community service is designed for settled but difficult-to-place service users with learning disabilities and complex needs. It fulfils the Richardson Care promise of a home for life, providing valuable peace of mind to families of the service users in our care. In fact, two of the residents here have been in our care for over 33 years – since we first started in 1989.
We focus on behaviour/risk management to maintain a high quality of life and the development and maintenance of daily living skills.
This service is suitable for individuals with an established diagnosis of learning disability and intellectual difficulties and comorbid conditions, such as mild to moderate symptoms of mental illness and personality disorder, progressive neurological conditions. They may present with mild to moderate challenging behaviour.
2 & 8 Kingsthorpe Grove are adjacent but separate detached Victorian properties. Number 2 is home to eight adults and number 8 is home to ten adults. They are under one registration with the CQC for administrative purposes but cater for individuals with different levels of needs, personalities and choices.
Both homes provide spacious accommodation with plenty of communal space inside and separate generous gardens outside. This gives service users choices on where to spend their time at home and who to spend it with. It also contributes to a calm, relaxed atmosphere within the home.
Wheelchair-accessible bedrooms are located on the ground floor of each home, with further bedrooms on the first and second floors. All have ensuite or private shower rooms.
We encourage service users to feel at home and personalise their bedrooms, which can be decorated to suit their taste. We are also happy for them to bring items of their own furniture if they choose.
The homes are located in the area of Kingsthorpe, Northampton, which has a real sense of community. There are shops, cafes and pubs nearby as well as a village church, local park and other leisure facilities. Northampton town centre is just two miles away, easily accessible by bus. 2 & 8 Kingsthorpe Grove are also close to The Richardson Mews, where we have a large hall used for communal activities such as parties and games.
After joining Richardson Care in 2012 as an Activity Support Work, Tally’s commitment and enthusiasm, along with training and support enabled her to progress to the Manager of long-term community LD and complex needs services at 2 & 8 Kingsthorpe Grove.
