Selina plays a crucial role in delivering training and supporting all of our staff in their learning and development. Selina joined Richardson Care as an activity support worker in 2004, then qualified to become a Diploma Assessor as well as taking on the role of Review Co-ordinator

Selina then qualified in PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Life-long Learning Sector) which enabled her to train our staff. She is also a certified MAPA (Managing Actual or Potential Aggression) instructor.

Selina now delivers the induction training for our staff as well as the following: Health & Safety, Learning Disability and Autism, Acquired Brain Injury awareness, Dementia awareness, food safety, infection prevention & control, MAPA, Epilepsy, constipation, medication, Sepsis, emergency first aid, safeguarding, data protection, equal opportunities, record keeping, DoLS (LPS), fire safety, manual handling, as well as specific training for our maintenance team (e.g. abrasive wheels, etc.) She also supports staff to complete the Care Certificate.

In addition, Selina is the Diploma Assessor for up to Level 5, so she meets with potential learners, carries out assessments and registration meetings. She supports staff to complete their diplomas by assessing holistically and giving detailed and constructive feedback to enable them to meet the criteria. She supports staff to progress and achieve qualifications. She also carries out observations of staff following diploma criteria, and liaises with ARC (the Association for Real Change), the company we use to claim certificates from City and Guilds.

Selina is a very modest, caring and kind-hearted person, providing great support to staff at all levels. She truly believes in the values of Richardson Care, which makes her the ideal person to introduce new staff to the organisation. Selina also maintains close relationships with some of the service users who she cared for in her original role.

When asked about what she enjoys most about working at Richardson Care, Selina says: “The support that you get from management and working with the range of staff that we have. All of us have different histories and backgrounds and everyone works together to help each other with any difficulties we may have.” She adds: “I have worked for different companies where profits are put above everything, including service users, which result in stressed and unhappy staff, but here, although it is a business, it really is person-centred and the service users are at the centre of everything we do. Staff are able to use their initiative and work with service users and management to enable them to reach their goals.”

In her spare time, Selina loves gardening and previously had an allotment and kept chickens, Since buying her first house, she now spends more time on her own garden and making home improvements. She has two adopted children, and her family has three cats and a dog. Selina also enjoys playing computer games – currently killing zombies in State of Decay 2!
